FAQ on Laser Tattoo Removal

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Laser tattoo removal speeds up the natural fading process carried out by your immune system over time. Our Astanza Trinity laser produces ultra-quick pulses of light energy over the undesired ink during a laser treatment. The different wavelengths of light energy are absorbed by specific groups of ink colors, causing the ink particles to shatter and break down into tiny fragments. Your immune system then naturally removes the fragmented particles, resulting in the fading of your tattoo. This process is repeated over a series of treatments until each layer of tattoo ink is shattered and removed.

How many treatments will I need?

The average number of treatments needed ranges between two to twelve, depending on your skin goals. Most clients seeking complete removal require 8 to 10 treatments. On the other hand, for clients interested in fading their tattoo for a cover-up, the treatments needed range between 2 to 5 treatments. Carmelo’s Ink City uses a variety of factors to determine how many treatments your unique tattoo will need; these include:

- Tattoo Age

- Tattoo Placement

- Tattoo Size

- Tattoo Colors

- Skin Type

- Ink Density

- Tattoo Type (Amateur vs. Professional)

- Pre-existing Scarring

- Individual Health

- Currently Taking Any Medication

When will I see complete results?

You can estimate your results by multiplying the number of treatments you’re assigned by the 6-to-8-week healing period between each treatment. For example, a client who needs seven sessions to remove their tattoo can expect to see results after 6 to 8 months. Although laser tattoo removal is a lengthy process, the results are definitely worth the wait. There’s no better feeling than seeing your unwanted tattoo fade more and more with each treatment.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Most clients describe our laser tattoo removal as bearable; others compare it to getting a tattoo again, experience a slight burning sensation or a rubber band snapping against the skin. Overall, treatment is very tolerable, and sessions are rapid. We’ve invested in the Zimmer Cryo cooling machine to numb the skin before, during, and after each treatment session to increase patient comfort. How long is a laser session? Laser tattoo removal is a speedy procedure and lasts anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes, depending on the tattoo’s size. Treatment times may take a little longer if multiple tattoos are treated in a single session.

Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up?

Absolutely! Cover-ups are a popular option for dealing with unwanted ink. Unfortunately, even the most talented tattoo artists have difficulty concealing an existing tattoo, significantly larger tattoos and ones that primarily contain black ink. Laser tattoo removal creates a cleaner canvas for tattoo artists to work on and removes color, size, and design limitations that cover-ups often carry.

In addition to tattoo fading, Carmelo’s Ink City can also selectively remove a specific part of your tattoo (i.e., a name/word, scripture, or element) without ruining the surrounding ink.
